Alacritous Dating

A few months ago, I became just one more of those well-educated late twenty-something women to re-enter singlehood. Yes, I am one of those women whose family is wondering why she's still single and whose friends assure is "amazing" but just hasn't found the right guy. The last few months have taught me two things, 1) that I have wonderful friends and family and 2) online personals can be hilarious. Here's my story.

Red Flags

My friend recently sent me a newspaper article about online dating. More specifically, this article focused on another woman's experience with online dating. She shared excerpts from some...uh...award-winning emails and talked about what she thought were red flags. I decided to add a few of my own.

- If the guy has the word "eagle" as part of his username, he is probably at least 48 years old and has gray hair. Not good if your age cutoff is way below that or don't dig guys with graying hair.

- Guys who have the word "knight" or "[fill in adjective][fill in color]eyes" are probably neither.

- What's up with creating usernames that are based on questions? Especially that have to do with dating? Example: "imsingleru" DUH!

That's it. I'd write more but it's past my bedtime. My next post will catch you up on some of the funny and not so funny post-break up drama.

Breaking News: Views Hit the 2K Mark

So this online dating site tracks the number of views for my profile. I was thinking about resetting it awhile ago but Team Girlnextdoor insisted I keep it going...just to see how high it would go.

Well here's the breaking news...
Today my profile views hit 2,033!

Here are other fun facts:
# of emails I've received from online suitors: 60
# of emails I've sent: 16
# of rejections I've sent out: 0 (seriously, it's online dating...no need to hurt people's feelings!)
# of rejections I've received: 1
States represented: Massachusetts, New York, Indiana, Florida, Maine, New Hampshire, Illinois

Stats on the guys...
Oldest guy to contact me: 54 years old (gag! hello, he may be 54 but obviously he can't read -- I marked my perfect mate's age range as 29-33)
Youngest guy to contact me: 25 (he was actually quite handsome, but we all know what happens when you date younger guys...yes, trouble.)

Quote of the week:
" I am not the biggest into emailing like some people on [this dating web site]. Kind of want a serious kind of Girl Friend."

I love how he typed it Girl Friend...as if it's a prestigious job title.

2 Minute Background

My boyfriend of almost 3 years and I broke up (for a second time) a few months ago. Things ended on a loving, but pretty damn sad note. In an effort to put myself back out on the market and distract myself from all the expected (and unexpected) drama post-breakup, I decided to join a popular online personals site...with a twist. I gave my username and password to five of my closest friends, so they too could enjoy the ups and downs of online dating. They are loving it.

At first I joked about creating a blog about this adventure...but the entertainment value can no longer be contained! When was the last time someone called you "sexy and dangerous?" Or confidently questioned you via email , "don't u want some fo this?!?!?!?!" [sic] And what the web site didn't tell me was how much I'd learn about myself! How else would I have learned that all those 40-something divorcees with small children living out of state with their moms think I am just the perfect catch and would make an excellent stepmom?!

Oh, the joys of online dating.
